Panama Inflation Rate at -0.60 percent
Consumer prices in Panama dropped 0.6 percent year-on-year in September 2019, the same pace as in the previous month. It remained the sharpest fall in consumer prices since at least 2008, as prices declined further for transport (-4.4 percent vs -3.5 percent in August). In addition, cost continued to fall for furnishings & household equipment (-1.2 percent, the same as in August) and communications (-1.6 percent, the same as in August). Also, prices slowed for miscellaneous goods & services (0.1 percent vs 0.2 percent) and education (0.7 percent vs 0.8 percent). In contrast, cost of food & beverages advanced at a faster pace (1.0 percent vs 0.6 percent), as prices for milk and eggs jumped 3.3 percent each. Also, prices fell less for recreation & culture (-0.6 percent vs -0.7 percent) and housing & utilities (-0.3 percent vs -0.4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat after falling 0.3 percent in August.
