Angola Inflation Rate Hits 3-Month High of 16.3%
Angola's annual inflation rate rose to 16.3 percent in November 2019 from 16.1 percent in the previous month, reflecting some impact of the recent introduction of the VAT and also the continued devaluation of the Kwanza. On a monthly basis, consumer prices inched up 1.5 percent, following a 1.4 percent rise in the prior month, as prices advanced faster mostly for housing & utilities (0.3 percent vs 0.1 percent in October); clothing & footwear (1.6 percent vs 1.3 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (1.6 percent vs 1 percent) and transport (1.3 percent vs 0.9 percent). Meanwhile, inflation remained steady for food & non-alcoholic beverages (at 1.9 percent).

Angola Inflation Rate Steady at Near 4-Year Low of 16.1%
Angola's annual inflation rate was unchanged at 16.1 percent in October 2019, its lowest level since January 2016. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 1.38 percent, easing from a 1.45 percent rise in the previous month, as cost increased less for housing & utilities (0.1 percent vs 1.2 percent); clothing & footwear (1.30 percent vs 1.63 percent); transport (0.9 percent vs 1.1 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (1 percent vs 1.7 percent) and recreation & culture (1.4 percent vs 1.7 percent). In contrast, inflation edged higher for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.92 percent vs 1.58 percent), in particular soybean oil (3.5 percent); sugar (3.6 percent) and rice (5 percent).

Angola Inflation Rate Lowest in Near 3 Years
Angola's annual inflation rate dropped to 16.08 percent in September 2019, its lowest level since January 2016, from 17.50 percent in the previous month. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 1.45 percent, following a 1.44 percent increase in August, amid higher prices of food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.58 percent vs 1.34 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (1.66 percent vs 1.37 percent) and restaurants & hotels (1.45 percent vs 1.37 percent). Meanwhile, cost slowed mostly for housing & utilities (1.15 percent vs 1.80 percent); clothing & footwear (1.63 percent vs 1.70 percent) and transport (1.14 percent vs 1.29 percent).

Angola Annual Inflation Rate Rises to 17.5% in August
The annual inflation rate in Angola increased to 17.5 percent in August 2019 from 17.24 percent in the previous month. It was the first rise in annual inflation rate after seven consecutive months of declines. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.44 percent, slowing from a 1.52 percent gain in July. Cost eased mainly for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.34 percent vs 1.39 percent in July); housing & utilities (1.8 percent vs 3.53 percent); and miscellaneous goods & services (1.37 percent vs 1.5 percent). Meanwhile, prices went up further for transport (1.29 percent vs 1.13 percent); clothing and footwear (1.7 percent vs 1.58 percent); health (2.39 percent vs 1.53 percent); restaurants & hotels (1.37 percent vs 1.27 percent) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.34 percent vs 1.08 percent).

Angola Monthly Inflation Rate Highest in 9 Months
Consumer prices in Angola grew 1.52 percent from a month earlier in July 2019, following a 1.08 percent increase in the prior month. It was the highest monthly inflation since September 2018 as cost of housing & utilities increased by 3.53% as electricity subsides were partially removed. In December 2018, Angola agreed to remove water and energy subsidies in exchange for a 3 year USD 3.7 billion financial assistance program from IMF. Prices also rose faster for food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.39% vs 1.15%); transport (1.13% vs 0.86%); clothing & footwear (1.58% vs 1.11%); hotels, cafes & restaurants (1.27% vs 1.19%) and miscellaneous goods & services (1.50% vs 1.29%).

Angola June Inflation Rate Slows to 3-1/2-Year Low
The annual inflation rate in Angola fell to 16.94 percent in June 2019 from 17.14 percent in the previous month, remaining the lowest inflation rate since January 2016. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.08 percent, easing slightly from a 1.09 percent gain in May. Cost of food & non-alcoholic beverages slowed (1.15 percent from 1.20 percent in May) while prices increased further for housing & utilities (0.76 percent from 0.72 percent); transport (0.86 percent from 0.69 percent); clothing & footwear (1.11 percent from 0.91 percent); restaurants & hotels (1.19 percent from 1.13 percent) and miscellaneous goods & services (1.29 percent from 1.09 percent).
