Thailand Exports Fall More than Expected
Exports from Thailand declined by 4.54 percent year-on-year to USD 20.76 billion in October 2019, compared to market forecasts of a 3.7 percent fall and following a 1.39 percent growth in the previous month. Sales to China contracted 4.2 percent, while those to the US grew by 4.8 percent. Considering the January to October period, exports shrank 2.35 percent from a year earlier. The commerce ministry predicts exports to grow by 3 percent this year, while the state planning agency sees exports falling 1.2 percent.

Exports dropped mainly due to lower sales of industrial products (-1.9 percent); agricultural (-7.7 percent) and mineral and fuels (-38.7 percent). Sales to China went down by 2.7 percent and to Japan fell by 1.2 percent, while those to the US were up 5.9 percent. Considering the January to August period, exports declined 2.19 percent from a year earlier. Thai Exports Rise for First Time in 5 Months
Exports from Thailand increased 4.28 percent year-on-year to USD 21.20 billion in July 2019, defying market expectations of a 2.3 percent drop and compared to a 2.15 percent decline in the previous month. This was the first yearly growth in overseas sales in five months, mainly boosted by a surge in gold shipments (407 percent). In contrast, exports of computers and parts fell 5.9 percent. Sales to China grew for the first time in nine months by 6.2 percent, while those to the US and Japan were up 9.8 percent and 8 percent respectively. Considering the January to July period, exports declined 1.91 percent from a year earlier. The commerce ministry predicts exports to grow by 3 percent this year, while the state planning agency sees exports falling 1.2 percent.

Thai Exports Fall for 4th Consecutive Month
Exports from Thailand declined 2.15 percent year-on-year to USD 21.41 billion in June 2019, less than market forecasts of a 5 percent drop and following a 5.79 percent fall in the previous month. That was the fourth straight month of yearly decrease in overseas sales, amid weakening global demand and ongoing trade tensions between Washington and Beijing. Exports to China slumped 14.9 percent, while those to the US fell 2.1 percent. Considering the January to June period, exports declined 2.91 percent from a year earlier. The government sees exports growing 3 percent this year, while the central bank has predicted no increase.

Thailand Exports Fall More than Expected
Exports from Thailand declined by 5.79 percent year-on-year to USD 21.02 billion in May 2019, worse than market estimates of a 3.6 percent drop and faster than a 2.57 percent fall in the previous month. This marked the third straight month of yearly drop in overseas sales, amid weakening global demand and persistent trade dispute between Washington and Beijing. Sales contracted mainly for cars and parts, electronics and oil. Exports to China fell by 7.2 percent, while those to the US grew 7.8 percent. Considering the January to May period, exports contracted 2.7 percent compared to the same period the prior year. The government recently revised lower 2019 export growth outlook to 2.2 percent from an earlier projections of 4.1 percent.
